Ambrose Burnside

A famous Union General who was particularly known for his sideburns. He was appointed general after the Battle of Antietam. He marched to Richmond hoping to take the Confederate capitol, but suffered horrible casualties at the Battle of Fredericksburg. Here Lee had entrenched himself and “killed” Burnside’s forces. He resigned and was disappointed with his failure. He was replaced by General Hooker.
