This was a new type of bullet which was used during the Civil War and was extremely effective and deadly. It allowed soldiers to reload their weapons faster because of the way it was packaged. Also it was much more accurate giving soldiers yet another advantage. This bullet however had deadly effects. Most men hit by this would get an amputation or die.
Springfield Model 1861
The Springfield Model 1861was the most common rifle used during the Civil War. Both the North and South used this weapon during the war. It had great accuracy and was extremely reliable. Also it could fire long range and was able to use a Minie bullet or Minie ball which was yet another great advantage towards using this. Last, this rifle had the availability to have a bayonet attached on to the tip of the barrel.
Pattern 1853 Enfield
This was the second most commonly used rifle during the Civil War. Also it was used by the Yankees and the Rebels as well. This was a rifled musket. Like the Springfield this was also able to use Minie Bullets.
Burnside Carbine
The weapon was invented by General Ambrose Burnside. It was issued to the Union Cavalry and only used by the North. Some soldiers like the rifle and thought it was a good weapon. Others disagreed and thought it was completely worthless. There are many other rifles that were used during the Civil War, but these were some of the most common ones.
