Ulysses S. Grant

General Grant was one of the best generals for the Union and after the Civil War became the 18th president of the United States. He is famous for helping start to gain control of the Mississippi River. His major battles that he won in were Fort Henry and Fort Donelson both Union victories. He was also in the Battles of Shiloh, Vicksburg, Petersburg, and Appomattox Court House.
