New Orleans

On April 25, 1862 Union forces under the command of David Farragut captured the city of New Orleans. He captured the mouth of the Mississippi River causing the South to no longer be able to use the river. The Union was now very close to controlling the entire Mississippi River. On the left is a picture of David Farragut. This was a Union victory.
